If you ask random people how they feel 2016 went for them, I can guarantee you the majority of them will say it was a bad year. In some ways I can agree that it wasn’t the best as I’ve had my fair share of downfalls, but I just learned to look past them.
I feel that sometimes we can take a lot of things for granted. I wasn’t able to do the things I wanted to this year like buy my own house and make a decent amount of money, but I would still say some amazing things happened that I will never forget.
Here are my personal highlights of 2016:
It was just a seven day holiday to Corfu with Kieron but it was the most amazing experience that I got to share with him. It was the week of my birthday and on that day, we took a day trip to Albania. It was one of the most beautiful places I have even seen. Over the course of the holiday Kieron went scuba diving. I’ve never done it before and was so nervous but I thoroughly enjoyed it! During a trip to the beach we also got incredibly which was hilarious as we look like a pair of lobsters. I’m so grateful that I was able to take that trip and have so many memorable experiences.
I Moved Out
Another highlight was that I moved out of my parents home and into a place with Kieron. I was so homesick the first few weeks and cried non stop but now I see it as a home, my home. The feeling of having my own independence is amazing! Yes, we have to pay bills now and that’s where the majority of our income goes but I wouldn’t change it for the world. It’s awesome that I get to see Kieron everyday too. 🙂
I Got A New Job
I got quite ill during 2016 and so quit my job as an IT technician. I wasn’t happy there and the stress was making me feel a thousand times worse. I was out of work for a few months whilst looking for a new job with only Kieron’s income supporting us. Money got pretty tight and not once did Kieron try and push me into getting a job. It was so supportive and let me take it all at my own pace. After a few interviews I finally got a call with a job offer which I happily accepted. I now work in retail and love it!
I Became A Mrs-To-Be
Kieron and I had been talking about engagement for a while and he said he wanted it to be a surprise. So on the 5th November he picked me up for work and when I got in the car he gave me some clothes to change into (weird, right?). He drove us back to our flat and when I got inside, it was all dark. He took me to the living room I was surprised to see our families there, sitting in the candlelight! I was saying hello to everyone and when I turned around, he was down on one knee and popped the question. It was the happiest moment of my life. I really cant wait to marry Kieron and spend the rest of my life with my best friend and soul mate.
So even though I didn’t become a millionaire I still became rich. Rich with love, happiness and memories.
I didn’t get to buy my own house either, but I was given the opportunity to rent a flat and make it a home.
After all, it’s the little things that count.
